Yamaha Golf Cart Light Kits: Choosing by Model

Choose a Yamaha Golf Cart Light Kit by Model

Yamaha G-Series, Drive, and Drive2 golf carts with illuminated LED headlight kits, illustrating model-specific light-kit

Start with your cart's model: G-series, Drive (G29), and Drive2 use different light kits. Then choose a basic kit for headlights and taillights, or a kit with turn signals if you need those features. Check what the kit includes before buying; a wiring harness makes connections easier, but it does not make every kit fit every Yamaha cart.

Not sure which model you own? Use the Yamaha year and model guide, then compare Yamaha golf cart light kits made for your cart. Electric carts may also need a voltage reducer, depending on the kit and how it gets power.

Yamaha Golf Cart Light Kit Selection by Model Series

Finding the proper lighting setup begins with identifying your specific Yamaha chassis. Yamaha cowls and rear bodies vary significantly across generations. The curved front fascia of a G-Series cart requires distinctly shaped headlight bezels compared to the angular front end of a Drive or Drive2. Choosing a kit engineered specifically for your body lines helps the light housings sit against the body panels and maintain a clean factory appearance.

If you are uncertain about your cart's platform, identifying the serial number location using our Yamaha cart year guide will help pinpoint your exact build.

Choosing a Yamaha Golf Cart Light Kit for G-Series Carts

Yamaha G-Series carts from the G14 through the G22 take their own light kits, separate from the Drive and Drive2. Our Yamaha G-Series light kits collection lists the light kits, wiring harnesses and turn signal parts we carry for these carts.

Some kits cover the whole G14 through G22 range, while others are built for one model, such as the GTW Led Light Kit, Premium Harness, Yamaha G22. Match the model in the product title to your cart before ordering.

Selecting a Yamaha Golf Cart Light Kit for Drive and Drive2 Models

The Yamaha Drive (also known as the G29) and the Yamaha Drive2 represent modern cart engineering, but their front and rear bodies are distinct from one another. Headlights and bezels designed for a Drive will not fit properly on a Drive2 cowl.

Owners of standard Drive models can explore our Yamaha Drive light kits, such as the GTW Led Light Kit, Premium Harness, Yamaha Drive G29.

For newer carts, our Yamaha Drive2 light kits include the GTW Led Drive 2 Light Kit w/Premium Harness, a headlight and taillight kit whose harness is ready for a turn signal upgrade, and the Drive 2 LED Ultimate Light Kit Plus (2017-Up), which puts turn signals, brake lights, a horn, a hazard switch and a built-in voltage reducer in one kit.

Basic vs. Turn Signal Light Kit Packages

When outfitting your cart, you must determine whether your driving habits require a basic setup or an expanded signal package.

A basic yamaha golf cart light kit typically contains:

  • LED headlights
  • Matching LED taillights
  • A wiring harness with a switch
  • Check the product page for the exact contents of each kit

These basic packages are ideal for standard evening cruising, campground transport, and low-light golf rounds where standard illumination is all that is required.

If you plan to navigate residential neighborhoods, multi-use paths, or busy resort areas, a turn signal package offers enhanced signaling capabilities. Upgraded packages integrate:

  • A steering column-mounted turn signal lever
  • Integrated brake switches (such as mechanical pedal switches or pressure-activated pads)
  • An automotive-style horn assembly
  • Hazard flasher functionality

It is important to understand how different upgrade kits function. Upgrade kits are not light kits and contain no lights. The Ultimate upgrade kit for Precedent, RXV and Drive/G29 adds a turn signal switch, steering column cover, pad style brake switch and horn to a MadJax basic light kit. The GTW Upgrade Kit, Premium, Universal For All Models adds turn signals with hazards, a horn and a brake light switch, and works only with GTW light kits. While adding signaling components improves overall cart functionality and communication with other drivers, local municipality ordinances govern road use, so a light kit alone does not automatically make a golf cart street legal. For more on how turn signal kits work, see our golf cart turn signal kit guide.

Electrical Requirements and Wiring Harness Capabilities

A vehicle's electrical setup dictates how accessories receive power. Yamaha carts operate on either gas engines with standard 12V starting batteries or multi-battery electric configurations (such as 36V or 48V battery banks).

All standard golf cart lighting elements, horn assemblies, and turn signals operate on 12-volt DC power. Never connect a 12V light kit straight to a 36V or 48V pack. Tapping 12 volts off just a couple of batteries is not a fix either: it damages those batteries and shortens the life of the whole pack. For electric carts, a high-quality DC-DC step-down converter is essential to step total pack voltage safely down to a constant 12V output. You can find compatible units in our voltage reducers collection.

Many kits use a plug-and-play harness. Some harnesses are built upgrade ready, so turn signals, a horn and a brake light switch can be added later with a matching upgrade kit instead of rewiring. Before ordering, confirm whether your chosen kit includes a built-in voltage reducer or requires a separate converter for your cart's battery configuration.

Frequently Asked Questions About Yamaha Golf Cart Lights

Do Yamaha LED light kits work on both gas and electric carts?

Yes. Yamaha LED lighting systems are compatible with both gas and electric powertrains. Gas carts provide 12V power directly from the starter battery. Electric carts (36V or 48V) simply require a DC-to-DC voltage reducer to step down the pack voltage to 12V, unless the kit features an integrated multi-voltage operating range.

How long do the LED bulbs in these kits last?

The GTW LED light kits we carry for the Yamaha Drive2 and Drive (G29) list a 5,000 to 10,000 hour bulb life. Check the product page for the rating of the kit you choose.

What components are included in a turn signal upgrade kit?

It depends on the kit. The Ultimate upgrade kit for Precedent, RXV and Drive/G29 includes an automotive style turn signal switch, a steering column cover, a pad style brake switch and a horn. The GTW Upgrade Kit, Premium, Universal For All Models includes a brake pad, turn signal indicator, column cover, horn, hazard switch and control box. Neither kit includes lights, so pair it with a matching basic light kit.

Do I need a voltage reducer for my electric Yamaha?

Yes, unless your light kit is specifically designed to operate across a multi-voltage range. Standard 12V lighting components must never be connected directly to a 36V or 48V battery pack. A properly sized DC-DC converter protects your lights and ensures consistent brightness without draining individual batteries unevenly.

No. A light kit alone does not make a golf cart street legal. Road use is set by state and local rules, so check with your local authorities before driving on public roads.

Choosing Your Kit

Selecting the right lighting package for your Yamaha comes down to identifying your exact body generation, understanding your power setup, and choosing between standard illumination and complete turn signal functionality. Ensuring proper model fitment avoids unnecessary body modifications and keeps your cart looking sleek. Orders over $100 ship free within the contiguous United States (Hawaii, Alaska and U.S. territories excluded), unless otherwise noted on the product page or at checkout. Some kits ship directly from the manufacturer, so check each product page for its shipping details.
