FAQs for EZGO Performance Upgrades
What speed and torque upgrades fit my EZGO's drive system?+
EZGO has several electric drive systems and the upgrade path depends on which one you have: 36V series, 48V DC (the PDS and DCS carts), and 48V AC (RXV and select TXT). A higher-amp controller like the Alltrax XCT is a drop-in for the DC carts, while a Navitas TSX AC conversion replaces both the motor and controller for the biggest jump plus regenerative braking. Confirm the badge on your existing controller before ordering — the wrong family won't run and can damage the motor.
Do the motor and controller have to be matched?+
Yes — motor and controller must match on both voltage and motor type, and on amperage rating. A 48V controller on a 36V pack will be damaged, and a DC controller will not run an AC motor. High-torque or high-speed motors also need a controller with enough amperage (often 400A-plus) and may exceed the stock solenoid rating, so upgrades are planned as a matched set.
Can I make my EZGO faster if it has a stock RXV controller?+
The RXV's stock AC controller doesn't have an accessible top-speed pot, so you can't simply dial it up — reaching a higher top speed means upgrading to a programmable controller like a Navitas TSX or an Alltrax AC equivalent. The older PDS/DCS DC carts have a physical speed pot on the controller you can adjust, but the RXV's stock AC controller has no accessible pot and needs a programmable-controller swap. If you're unsure whether your build is tunable, call 678-331-7404 before you open anything up.
Are speed upgrades safe and legal?+
They can be done safely when the whole system is matched — controller, motor, cables, and solenoid — and the battery, brakes, and tires are in good shape for the higher speeds. Legally, speed modifications can affect your warranty and are governed by local rules: an LSV is capped at 25 mph, and anything faster is generally private-property only. Confirm your state's road rules before tuning a street-tagged cart.
How is this different from the general Performance Upgrades hub?+
This page narrows the performance catalog to EZGO-fit parts and the EZGO drive systems (PDS, DCS, and AC), so you're not sorting through Club Car and Yamaha options. The generic Performance Upgrades hub is the all-brand rollup. Start here if you know you're on an EZGO and match the part to your specific controller family.
