FAQs for Club Car Roofs

Is my Club Car a DS or a Precedent, and does it matter for the roof?+

It matters a lot: the DS and Precedent use different struts and mounting points, and most tops are built for one or the other. Your serial number plate settles it. On a DS, look in the passenger-side glove box area or on the driver-side frame rail; on a Precedent, look on the passenger-side dash near the glove box or on the driver-side frame rail near the rear axle. The body is a quick check too: the DS has an upright flat dash and an exposed tubular front bumper, while the Precedent has a rounded, integrated front end. And any Club Car built before 2004 is a DS (or an earlier model), since the Precedent launched in 2004.

Does an older DS take a different roof than a newer DS?+

Yes. The DS changed around 2000, and earlier and later DS carts have different windshield post geometry, so tops and struts are split by year. You'll see it in the listings here: a 56-inch DS top for older carts, an OEM-replacement DS top for 2000-and-newer carts, and DS front and rear struts listed for 2000-and-newer carts. If your DS is close to that 2000 to 2001 line, send us the serial number and we'll confirm which side of the split it's on before you choose.

Will a Precedent roof fit my Club Car Tempo or Onward?+

Often, but go by the listing. The Precedent, Tempo, and Onward share their body architecture, and some kits here, like the RHOX 500 Series strut set, are listed for the Tempo alongside the Precedent. Strut placement can differ between the Precedent and the Onward, though, and that's what decides whether an extended top lines up. If you have a Tempo or Onward and a listing only names the Precedent, check with us before ordering.

I'm not sure which Club Car roof fits my cart. Can you help?+

Sure. Grab your serial number (it tells us DS vs Precedent and helps us pin down the year), note your rear seat kit brand if you have one, and decide whether you want a stock-length or an extended top. Call us at 678-331-7404 and we'll match the roof and the struts or brackets it needs before you order.

Why are there struts and brackets in a roofs collection, and how is this different from Roof Supports?+

Because an extended Club Car roof often needs them. A longer top reaches back over a rear seat, and the rear struts are matched to that seat kit, which is why you'll find kits here named for the Madjax Genesis 150 and Genesis 300, GTW Mach, RHOX 500 Series, and Nivel rear seats, plus Precedent front brackets for 80-inch and 88-inch tops. This page keeps Club Car tops together with the Club Car strut and bracket kits that go with them. Roof Supports is the struts-and-brackets collection for all makes, and the Roofs collection covers tops across the makes we carry.
