Voltage is the size of your cart's electrical system. Most modern carts are 48-volt, but many older ones are 36-volt — for example, Club Car DS before 1995, EZGO TXT before 2010, and the Yamaha G-series (G1–G22) are all 36V. They're lithium iron phosphate — commonly written LiFePO4 — the chemistry the golf-cart industry standardizes on because it's very stable, handles thousands of charge cycles, and holds voltage well as it discharges. Every quality pack also has a built-in battery management system (BMS) that protects it from over-charge, over-discharge, and temperature extremes. Exact BMS ratings vary by brand, so check the product page for a specific pack's specs.

It depends on the pack's amp-hour (Ah) capacity and how you drive — terrain, load, speed, tire size, and whether your cart is lifted all change real-world range. As a rule, more amp-hours means more range, and lithium holds its power more evenly through the charge than lead-acid, so you don't get the same fade near the end. Three practical differences. Lithium is far lighter — a drop-in 48V pack is roughly 60–120 lb versus 340–380 lb for six lead-acid batteries — which takes weight off the cart. It holds voltage more steadily, so the cart feels strong down to a low charge instead of getting sluggish. And it's sealed and maintenance-free (no watering) and typically lasts several times more charge cycles. The trade-off is a higher up-front cost.
