Club Car Precedent Parts & Accessories

The Precedent is Club Car's mainstream platform since 2004 — aluminum frame, IQ controller standard, 48V electric or Subaru EX21 gas. It replaced the DS as the personal-cart flagship and shares its chassis with the newer Onward (2017+) and Tempo (2018+). There are tens of thousands on the road and on the course, and this is the deepest parts catalog of any Club Car platform.

Three things to know that affect what fits:

Know your controller — not just the year. For controllers, AC conversion kits, and performance upgrades, what fits is decided by the controller actually in your cart — not the model year. Year is only a rough guide: early Precedents used the original IQ controller and the controller family changed around 2008 (which affects AC-conversion and motor-wiring fit), but carts also get converted, upgraded, and swapped — so the year alone can be misleading. Gas vs electric. Gas Precedents use the Subaru EX21 (carburetor, fuel pump, exhaust, ignition); electric use a controller, motor, and battery pack. Use the Cart Type filter (Gas or Electric) on the side rail to see just yours.

Precedent vs Tempo. Tempo replaced Precedent for golf-course duty in 2018 and shares brakes, suspension, and most lighting — but body kits, dashboards, and several lighting trims differ. If you have a Tempo, confirm fitment.

Precedent vs DS — how do I know which I have?+

The surest way is the serial number — send it to us or call 678-331-7404 and we'll confirm the exact model and year for you. As a quick visual check: the Precedent (2004+) has a rounded, modern hood with integrated headlights — the cart most people picture today when they hear “Club Car” — while the DS has a squared-off, traditional hood with separate headlight pods. But aftermarket body kits can disguise those cues, and the DS stayed in production alongside the Precedent for years, so shape and year alone don't settle it — the serial number does. When did the Precedent launch?+

2004. Club Car introduced the Precedent as the Personal Transportation Vehicle (PTV) flagship, replacing the DS in the personal-cart category (the DS continued in golf-course and Carryall trim for years after). The Precedent has been in continuous production since 2004 — over 20 model years and counting.

2004-2008 vs 2008+ — what's the split?+

2004-2008 Precedents used the original IQ controller. Around 2008 the electric controller family changed (the IQ generation evolved), which changed the motor-wiring and AC-conversion fit. The Alltrax AC1 conversion kit, for example, has separate 2004-2008 and 2008+ SKUs. Most non-electrical parts (brakes, suspension, body, lights) are shared across the full 2004+ run, so the split mostly matters for controllers and AC conversions. One caveat: because carts get converted and controllers swapped, the year is a guide, not a guarantee — confirm the controller actually in your cart before ordering electronics or performance parts.

Gas vs electric Precedent — different parts catalog?+

Mostly, yes. Gas Precedents use the Subaru EX21 engine — carburetor, fuel pump, fuel filter, exhaust, ignition, drive belt. None of these apply to electric carts. Electric Precedents use a controller (IQ or later), motor, battery pack, and charger. None of those apply to gas. Shared: brakes, suspension, body, lights, dash, seats, wheels, tires, accessories. Use the Cart Type filter (Gas or Electric) on the side rail to narrow to yours.

Precedent vs Tempo — do they share parts?+

Many, not all. Tempo replaced Precedent on golf-course duty in 2018, and Club Car kept the chassis and most running gear shared. Brakes, suspension, most lighting (“Precedent / Tempo” SKUs throughout), wheels, and many accessories carry over. Different: body panels, dashboards, headlight assemblies, and some lighting trims. If you have a Tempo, look for “Tempo” or “Precedent / Tempo” in the SKU title. When in doubt, call us with the year.
