Club Car DS Parts & Accessories

The Club Car DS is the cart most people picture when they hear the words “golf cart.” Aluminum frame, squared-off body, built in Augusta from 1982 all the way through 2014. There are still hundreds of thousands of them on the road, in the yard, and on the course — and most of the parts that wear out are still readily available. That’s what this page is for.

A few year notes worth knowing before you click. The DS ran 36V from 1982 through 1995, then switched to 48V from 1995 to the end of production. On the electric side, the 48V DS runs a SepEx system (PowerDrive, and later Excel, controllers). Gas DS carts ran the FE290, FE350, and later Subaru EH29C engines. The chassis is broadly the same across decades, but the electrical system changed more than once — so confirm your year before you buy a controller, solenoid, or charger.

Most folks landing here are after lift kits, light kits, rear seats, body kits, or a lithium conversion — all of it lives below. New to upgrades? Our guides on Club Car light kits and Club Car body kits walk through the options first.

FAQs for Club Car DS Parts & Accessories

What year is my Club Car DS?+

Club Car stamps the serial number on a small plate inside the passenger-side glove box area, or on the frame itself. The first letter of the serial encodes the year of manufacture, and the next characters give the week. If you can read off the full serial — letter included — we can decode it for you over the phone at 678-331-7404. The DS was produced from 1982 to 2014, so the same body covers a wide range of model years.

Is my Club Car a DS or a Precedent?+

The surest way is to decode the serial number — send it to us or call it in to 678-331-7404 and we'll confirm the exact model and year for you. Body shape is a good quick check if your cart still has its factory body: the DS has a squared-off front cowl with a separate bolt-on front bumper and a more upright windshield post, while the Precedent has a smoother, rounded one-piece front with the bumper built into the cowl. But aftermarket body kits can disguise those cues, so the serial number is what we really want. You're welcome to send photos of the front end too (support@extremekartz.com) — just be sure to include that serial.

Club Car DS drive systems — PowerDrive, Excel, or IQ?+

On the DS, the confirmed split is by voltage. 1982-1995 DS carts are 36V with a series-wound motor and contactor speed control. 1995-2024 DS carts are 48V and use a SepEx system — PowerDrive, and later Excel, controllers. Those families use different controllers, solenoids, and chargers, so a part listed for one won't necessarily fit another; identify the controller in your cart (or decode the serial) before ordering electronics. One common mix-up: Club Car's IQ system (and ERIC regen) is the Precedent's platform, not the DS — if you've been told your cart is “IQ,” double-check whether it's actually a Precedent. Not sure? Call 678-331-7404 with your serial and we'll confirm the system.

Will a lift kit fit my Club Car DS?+

Yes — there are 3", 4", and 6" lift kits made specifically for the DS. The same kit will generally fit gas and electric, but you do need to know your year (pre-1995 vs 1995+ for the 36V/48V split, since some lift kits ship with bracket variations). Lifted DS carts also sometimes need longer brake lines and a steering-column extension depending on tire size. We can spec the whole package — give us a call before you order the kit alone.

Can I put a lithium battery in a 1990s Club Car DS?+

Yes, we can do this. The main thing to know: many 1990s DS carts run 36V, and converting from 36V to 48V may require other components — typically a new charger, and depending on your setup possibly a new controller or motor. Call us at 678-331-7404 and we'll put together the right bundle for your cart.
