FAQs for Charge Meters
What voltage charge meter do I need — 36V or 48V?+
Match the meter to your pack voltage: a 36V meter on a 48V pack (or vice versa) will read wrong or power on erratically. A mismatched-voltage gauge is a leading cause of a meter that "flickers" or won't stay on, so confirm whether your cart is 36V or 48V first (counting batteries is the quick check). Order the meter rated for that voltage.
Analog or digital — which should I get?+
We carry both. Analog (round needle) meters are simple and easy to read at a glance; digital meters show a precise percentage or voltage and often add a battery-bar display. It's mostly preference — pick the readout you find easiest to trust. Both come in round, horizontal, and vertical formats to suit your dash cutout.
How do I install one and read it accurately?+
Most panel-mount meters drop into a dash cutout (commonly 1-1/8" or 1-3/8"), with a fused positive lead off the pack and a ground; programmable digital meters also need their "full" and "empty" voltage thresholds set. To read it accurately, check the charge at rest — voltage sags under load and rebounds after, so a reading while you're on the pedal will look low. One caveat on lithium: a simple voltage-based meter is less precise on a lithium pack — a coulomb-counting meter or your pack's BMS app gives a truer state of charge.
My gauge won't stay on — what should I check before I call?+
Run the quick list: confirm the meter's voltage matches your pack, check that the harness connector is fully seated and corrosion-free, verify the key switch (many meters are powered through it), and inspect for a loose ground. A clean power cycle — key off, disconnect the main connector for 30 seconds, restart — clears some install glitches. If it still won't hold after those, call us at 678-331-7404 and we'll sort it or arrange a replacement.
How is this different from the Battery Accessories collection?+
Charge Meters is the dedicated state-of-charge gauge collection — the place to choose your exact meter by voltage, analog vs. digital, and mounting format. Battery Accessories carries a meter or two among many other items (voltage reducers, charge ports, solenoids, terminal hardware), but it's not built to compare meters. Come here to pick the right gauge; go to Battery Accessories for the rest of the pack's supporting parts.
