FAQs for Batteries & Chargers
What's the basic difference between lead-acid and lithium batteries?+
Lead-acid (flooded, AGM, or gel) is the cheaper, well-understood option — heavier, a 3–5 year typical life, and flooded packs need regular watering. Lithium costs more upfront but is far lighter, lasts many more cycles, and is maintenance-free. This collection focuses on lead-acid packs and chargers; if you're shopping a lithium drop-in, our dedicated lithium and 48V battery collections are the better starting point.
How do I tell if my cart is 36V or 48V?+
The quickest check is to count your batteries and read their voltage. Six 6-volt batteries make a 36V pack, while four 12-volt or six 8-volt batteries make a 48V pack. Voltage has to match your cart's system exactly, so confirm this before ordering any battery or charger.
Will any charger work with my batteries?+
No — a charger has to match three things: your pack voltage (36V or 48V, exactly), your battery chemistry, and your cart's charge-port connector. Common plugs include the Crowsfoot on older 36V Club Car DS carts, PowerWise on 36V EZGO TXT, the 3-pin on 48V TXT, and PowerDrive on Club Car DS 1995-plus, Precedent, and Tempo. If you're unsure which plug your cart uses, call 678-331-7404 and we'll match it.
What amp output charger should I get?+
For most recreational carts a 15–20 amp charger fully recharges a 100Ah pack overnight, and 25 amps is a good general-purpose choice for 48V packs up to about 150Ah. Larger 150–200Ah packs or fleet carts that need faster turnaround benefit from a 30–35 amp charger. Beyond that is generally unnecessary for a standard golf cart.
How do I maintain flooded lead-acid batteries?+
Flooded batteries need regular watering — check the levels on a schedule and top off with distilled water, keeping the plates just covered. Golf cart batteries follow standard group sizes that fit the stock battery tray, so match the size to your cart when replacing. Keep the terminals clean and the pack fully charged, since leaving lead-acid discharged shortens its life.
