FAQs for Yamaha Gas Engine Parts

How do I identify my Yamaha gas engine and generation?+

Yamaha gas parts are grouped by generation — the older G-series (G1 through G22), the G29 "Drive" (2006-2016), and the Drive2 (2017-plus). The serial number stamped on the chassis frame is the most reliable way to confirm which Yamaha you have, but it doesn't read out the year by itself — a Yamaha dealer or your owner's manual decodes the serial to the model year. Confirm the generation before ordering, since parts don't freely cross between them.

Is my Yamaha gas cart carbureted or fuel-injected?+

The G29 Drive is carbureted from 2006-2011 and switched to EFI (electronic fuel injection) in model year 2012 through 2016, and the Drive2 (2017-plus) is EFI. That 2012 cutover is a hard fitment split — the fuel pump, throttle body, and related parts on an EFI cart are completely different from the carbureted years, so a carb-cart part won't fit an EFI cart. Confirm your year against the engine before ordering fuel-system parts.

Is the early G-series 2-stroke or 4-stroke?+

The original G1 (1979-1989) is the two-stroke generation, and Yamaha moved to four-stroke engines with the G2 and everything after. The G1's fuel system and internals differ from the later four-stroke G-models, so match parts to your exact G-model. If you're running a G1, it uses pre-mixed fuel rather than a separate oil fill.

What's in a Yamaha tune-up kit?+

A tune-up kit bundles the routine service items — air filter, fuel filter, and spark plug — for a specific Yamaha generation, such as the G14, the G16-through-Drive 4-cycle kit, or the complete Drive kit. Match the kit to your generation rather than buying by make alone. It's more economical than sourcing each filter and plug separately.

I'm not sure which Yamaha I have — can you help?+

Yes — the frame serial number is the reliable ID, but since it doesn't self-decode to a year, have your Yamaha dealer or owner's manual translate it, and note whether the cart is carbureted or EFI. With the generation and fuel type we'll match the right carburetor, filter, or tune-up kit. Call 678-331-7404 and we'll confirm before you order.
