FAQs for Battery Cable Sets

How do I know which cable-set configuration I need?+

Cable sets are built for a specific pack layout, so the answer is in how your batteries are arranged: count them and note their voltage. Six 8-volt batteries (6×8V), four 12-volts (4×12V), and six 6-volts (6×6V) each take a different interconnect set — the number and length of cables is matched to that exact configuration. Match the set to your layout (for example, a 48V TXT is most commonly 6×8V), not just to your cart model.

4 AWG or 2 AWG — and does the gauge differ between the main leads and the interconnects?+

For a stock 48V cart, 4 AWG is the standard for the main pack-to-controller leads, with 6 AWG fine for the between-battery interconnects. Step up to 2 AWG on the main leads once you've added a high-amp controller (Alltrax 400A+, Navitas TSX) or done an AC conversion — the drive pulls more current than stock cable should carry. When you're between sizes, go one gauge heavier; thicker cable just means lower resistance with no downside. Full 2 AWG throughout is the rule for 72V builds.

When should I replace my battery cables?+

Replace them when you see green corrosion at the lugs, discoloration or heat marks at a terminal, cracked or brittle insulation, or a measurable voltage drop under load that a clean, tight connection doesn't fix. New cables are also part of any high-amp controller or AC upgrade, since old thin cable becomes the bottleneck. And confirm your lug stud sizes (commonly 3/8" or 5/16", and they vary by platform) so the new terminals seat correctly.

I'm not sure of my pack configuration — can you help me order the right set?+

Yes. Count your batteries and their voltage (or send a photo of the battery bay) and call us at 678-331-7404 — we'll confirm whether you're 6×8V, 4×12V, or another layout and match the correct set and gauge. Ordering a set built for a different configuration is the most common cable-set return, and this call heads it off.

How is this different from the Battery Accessories collection?+

Battery Cable Sets are the interconnect cables themselves — the copper between your batteries and out to the controller, matched to your exact pack layout. Battery Accessories is the broader mix around the pack: voltage reducers, charge ports, charge meters, solenoids, fuse blocks, and terminal hardware. Come here when you're re-cabling a pack or upgrading gauge for a high-amp build; go to Battery Accessories for everything else that supports the batteries.
