What is an AC conversion?+

An AC conversion replaces your cart's original DC motor and controller with a modern AC drive system — a new AC motor plus a matched AC controller working together. It's a bigger change than a simple parts swap because you're changing the drive architecture, not just tuning it. The payoff is more torque, regenerative braking, and higher top speed.

What are the benefits — torque, regen, speed?+

On typical golf cart AC conversions the payoff is noticeably more torque and stronger low-end pull, regenerative braking (the motor helps slow the cart and recovers some energy), and higher top speeds in the 25–32 mph range depending on the kit. Keep in mind that if your cart is a street-legal LSV, it's capped at 25 mph by law regardless of what the drive can do. The torque and regen are usually what owners notice most — better hill-climbing and smoother stops.

What's included, and what does the kit replace?+

A conversion kit includes the AC motor and its matched AC controller, and depending on the kit a wiring harness and programming interface. It replaces both the stock motor and the stock controller — that's what makes it a "conversion" rather than a controller upgrade. One compatibility note: some AC kits — the Navitas kit, for example — aren't compatible with the OEM series-run tow switch or a handle-mounted Forward/Neutral/Reverse switch and need a separate compatible FNR switch, so check the kit's listing or call us to confirm what your conversion needs.

Will an AC conversion kit fit my cart?+

Kits are platform-specific — there are dedicated versions for Club Car DS, Precedent, Onward, and Tempo; EZGO TXT (the RXV is already factory AC and doesn't take a conversion kit); and Yamaha G29/Drive and Drive2, among others. Because the kit has to match your motor mount, controller architecture, and switchgear, this is one to confirm before buying. How is this different from a DC controller upgrade or the general Performance Upgrades pages?+

A DC controller upgrade (in the controllers collection) keeps your existing DC motor and swaps only the controller for more amps — cheaper and closer to a drop-in. An AC conversion swaps both the motor and the controller for an AC system, which is a larger install but a bigger jump and adds regen. The general Performance Upgrades hub is the broad rollup — lift, gears, controllers, and more — while this collection is specifically the AC drive-system kits.
